Hwa Chong Asia-Paci 1000 fic Young Leaders Summit 2008
On July 13th, 2008, participants from twelve countries across the globe poured in Singapore.
We, Mr. Liu, Li Zhushi, Xu Xiaojing and Zhu Yinglun, delegates from Liaoning Shiyan High School, China, traveled 5000km all the way to the southernmost country of the continental Asia—Singapore.
A magnificent 10-day summit had begun since then.
We couldn’t forget the time when we had lunch together with H.E. President Nathan at Istana, when we learned a lot during the fruitful dialogue with the minister of education in Singapore, teachers & students from around the world, when we searched the precious knowledge of business & finance at GIC(Government of Singapore Investment Corporation Pte Ltd), EDB(Economic Development Board, Singapore), and SIA(Singapore Airlines), when we discussed the economy, politics and development around the globe at Summit & Student dialogue, when we visited the fascinating world-class tourist attraction—Sentosa Island and the amazing night zoo—Night SAFARI, when we spent the highly meaningful time with the children at Pertapis Children’s Home. These, deeply engraved in our heart.
From the heat of the summit dialogue to the thrill of the adventure camp, from the enrichment of the interaction with top government officials to the warmth of the encouragement from the minister of education Ms. Grace Fu, from the amazement of many scientific marvels at A*Star to the admiration for the high tech at NEWater Plant--these days have certainly been well spent.
During the visit to Housing Development Board, land Transport Authority, MediaCorp, Public Utilities Board, Urban Redevelopmet Authority, Singapore Press Holdings, Ministry of Defence, etc., we also interacted actively and won the high praise from people in various fields.
Through the summit, we not only made friends with all the delegates from all over the world, but also improved the friendship between our school and many other participating schools, such as Modern School, Shimonoseki-Nishi High School, Senior High School at Otsuka, University of Tsukuba, Dar Al-Fikr Girls' School, Cheonan Bugil High School, Azabu Senior High School, Hwa Chong Institution (High School), Nanyang Girls' High School, Raffles Girls' School (Secondary), Raffles Institution and so on. At the same time, w 3000 e made contacts with each other to keep our friendship lasting and stable.
More importantly, we deeply understand the theme of this summit through our exploration and effort during these ten days. It is the theme—Converging Divergences that made us come together, made truly endless boundaries for each other, created engaging discussions and meaningful interaction between different countries, and empowered us with the tenacity and confidence to achieve much more than what we believed was possible. Through this summit, we sought, at a personal level and a global level, and in the end, we understand what the modern world that we are growing in is, how we can marry the seeming contradictions and divisions in our world and the real meaning of the role the leaders of the future to play, that is, a leader should strive to be socially aware and cooperate with others. He must full of sense of responsibility at any time.
Though we have already returned, the memories of every day we had passed at the summit are still vivid in mind. Here is a poster about some of the experiences during the summit. Let’s share them!
